Community Screening and Public Awareness

Early detection and public awareness remain central to the Healthy Heart Foundation’s efforts to prevent cardiovascular disease. Many individuals living with hypertension and other cardiovascular risk factors are unaware of their condition until serious complications occur.

Through community outreach activities, the Foundation conducts screening programs in public spaces such as markets, workplaces, churches, community gatherings, and health camps. These outreach activities provide opportunities for individuals to receive basic health checks and learn about the importance of maintaining heart health.

In addition to screening services, the Foundation delivers health education sessions focusing on key cardiovascular risk factors, including unhealthy diets, physical inactivity, tobacco use, harmful alcohol consumption, and the importance of regular blood pressure checks.

Making Heart Health Information Accessible

Recognizing that language barriers can limit access to health information, the Healthy Heart Foundation launched heart health education materials in eight local languages. Currently, literature on CHD and RHD has been made available in Ateso, Acholi, Luganda, Lumasaaba, Runyakole-Rukiga, Runyoro-Rutoro, and Ma’di

These materials help ensure that individuals who may not read or understand English are still able to access important information about heart disease prevention, early detection, and healthy lifestyle practices.

By making educational resources available in local languages, the Foundation can reach a wider audience and ensure that communities across Uganda can understand and act on life-saving health information.

“Knowing Your Numbers” media campaign

A key message in the Foundation’s public awareness work is encouraging individuals to “Know Your Numbers.”

Through community campaigns and health education initiatives, people are encouraged to regularly check their blood pressure and understand the importance of early detection of cardiovascular risk factors.

This message is also reinforced through the Foundation’s partnership with the Kingdom of Buganda under the Kuuma Omutima Obeere Mulamu campaign, which promotes heart health awareness and community screening across the Kingdom.

The Foundation continues to prioritize health education and public awareness as essential components of cardiovascular disease prevention. Mass Media and Digital Advocacy HHF utilized a multi-channel approach to ensure message saturation.
